The Howards’ Story
Harold and Jeanette Howard were always there when their friends, family, and community needed them. Harold was born in Watrous Saskatchewan in 1931. He began working for SaskPower in 1949, launching a lifelong career with the organization. He met Jeanette in Regina, and they married in 1960.
Harold had arthritis, which began in his youth. As a result, he had significant contact with the health system in his younger years. It was after another such hospital stay in 1985 that he and Jeanette began donating to Saskatchewan Health Services. It was something they would continue for the rest of their lives.
In 2008 Jeanette was diagnosed with lung cancer. Harold was right by her side throughout her brave battle against the disease, but she sadly passed away in 2012. He lived another seven years on his own before reuniting with her in 2019.
Their family says that for as long as they can remember, Harold and Jeanette gave back to various organizations. It was a surprise to no one then that the Howard’s estate went to supporting various charities, with the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan being one of the honoured recipients.
The Howard family remembers the joy that Harold and Jeanette had experienced through their connections with family and community during their lives. The gift they left in their estate will
continue to bring joy, even in their absence.
Their donation of $189,000 to the Cancer Foundation will play an important role in providing much-needed equipment and services to enhance cancer care for the people of Saskatchewan.
